Hannah Wept, Sarah Laughed: Version 2.0
(So… the transfer process took WAY less time than I thought it would so I’ve jumped the gun and made the switch to WordPress two days early. I just got too damn excited.)
Welcome to the new and improved Hannah Wept, Sarah Laughed! You may have noticed there’s a lot less pink and whole lot more sass. Hopefully you’ll find this new design a lot cleaner and easier to navigate.
Let’s take a quick tour, shall we?
Header Image
Up along the top you’ll notice my lovely new header image. No more pomegranates: just two pictures that I think really reflect the meaning of this blog title. The pic on the left is from my wedding day. The pic on the right is from the Salem Red Tent Temple. Clicking on the header will always take you back to the main home page.
Top Navigation Bar
Along the top you’ll see five pages; these are the guiding navigation you’ll see on every page of the website.
- About Page: Come get to know a little bit about me and this blog.
- Contact, Media, Disclosure Policy, and Advertise: Nifty dropdown pages with more info about this blog and how you can reach me.
- Who Are Hannah & Sarah: Get the rundown on from where the title for this blog came.
- Infertile Women of the Torah Series: Another nifty dropdown page that automatically updates each time a new post is added to this series.
- Resources & Links: My collection of various infertility books and websites.
- Blogroll, Book Reviews, and How to Be an Infertility Advocate: More nifty dropdown pages with more information and resources. All three pages auto-update as new posts and/or blogs are added to each category.
- What IF Video Page: Watch and share my video from right within my blog.
- The PETA Petition Page: A full timeline of events, posts, and media articles surrounding the whole affair in April 2011.
- Search Box: Looking for a specific post or topic? Search away to your heart’s content!
Main Content Area (Left)
In the left main area below the top nav bar (basically right where you’re looking at right now) you’ll always see main content, whether it’s a single blog post, search results, or category post listings. This section is where the magic happens.
- Sharing is Caring! At the bottom of every post, you’ll see a Shareaholics Sexy Bookmarks plugin that allows you to share any of my posts on Twitter, Facebook, StumbleUpon, Digg, Reddit, Gmail, or your favorite email client. Hooray for simple social media sharing!
- Related Posts: Like my old LinkWithin back at Blogger, you’ll see up to 5 related posts at the bottom of each post. Have fun exploring
Right Sidebar
On the right sidebar, you’ll see a variety of things that may or may not rotate out.
- Social Media Icons: How you can reach me all over the web.
- BlogHer Affiliate Space: Rotating affliate ads from the BlogHer Ad Network.
- Popular Posts This Week: The latest, hottest, freshest posts.
- Greatest Hits: Posts that consistently stand the tests of time.
- Ad Space: Makin’ babies ain’t cheap & mama’s gotta eat.
- Awesomesauce: Things that freakin’ rock.
- Search Box: Another one in case you missed it at the top.
- Blog Archives: Browse my blog via monthly archives.
- Categories: Browse my blog via various post categories.
Footer
You’ll always see the same five items at the bottom of every page of my blog.
- Disclaimer: I’m totally not a doctor.
- Copyright: Hooray for intellectual property rights!
- Connect With Me: Another quick hit for my Twitter, Facebook, and RSS Email subscribe links.
- Read More: Missed my pages at the top? No problem – here they are down here too.
- Infertility Wisdom: Rotating quotes from infertile celebs, quotes about hope, and facts about infertility.
Whew… What a tour!
What do you think? Do you like the new look? Is it easy to get around and find what you’re looking for over here? And how much are you loving the 99% less pink?
I do have to make a quick commercial announcement to say that none of this would have been possible without the amazing help of Sharon Hujik’s eBook, How to Move from Blogger to WordPress. It’s worth every penny*. I didn’t miss a single step in all the minutiae of transitioning between the two platforms. I could have dropped some serious bank to have someone do this move for me and instead I got to take the reins and do it myself with little difficulty at all.
*Sharon actually has a code to save you 25% off the original price, too. Click here for the discount goodness!
Whether you’re loyal readers since April 2009 or new folks joining me for the first time today, I’m looking forward to sharing my many adventures from the comfort of my swanky new virtual digs!
